How To Enter the Jack Daniels BBQ Contest


So you think you've got what it takes? You've got your special sauce and your cooker ready to go? All set to enter the Jack Daniels BBQ Contest? Well, maybe not. At least unless you are a serious competition BBQ team. The Jack Daniels BBQ Contest is invitation only, so you need to have some previous BBQ competition under your charcoal first. You also need to be ready to compete with some of the best BBQ teams in the world.

The "Jack", as the competition is nicknamed, is considered the Super Bowl of BBQ. Every October It hosts some of the most prestigious BBQ teams from across the globe. It is an invitation only competition to ensure the highest qualifying teams. To be eligible for entry teams must have won a state championship competing with at least 25 teams, a competition of 5 teams or be a winner of one of the big time BBQ competitions such as the American Royal Open in Kansas City or Memphis in May. Grand Champions of such competitions qualify automatically for the "Jack". So, you can see it's cook off of the premier chefs in the BBQ world.

The competition will host 80 teams from around the world and the 25,000 or so fans who come to sample the best BBQ in the land. Chefs will compete in eight categories: Pork Ribs' Pork Shoulder/Butts' Beef Brisket' Chicken' Dessert' Cook's Choice and Jack Daniel's Sauce. These are fairly common categories for BBQ competitions with the exception of the Jack Daniel's Sauce. Most competitions have a "house specialty" category that makes them unique. Sometimes it's a local specialty or style, sometimes a product of the sponsor.
